My Two Scents

Each Christmas or thereabouts, one of my aunts gives me a set of toiletries that include a bottle of body lotion. Ok but I’m not exactly excited about the scents that she chooses.

One year it was cucumber melon. Most recently it was coconut lime verbena. I do not want to smell like fruit salad! I don’t want people thinking I accidentally poured my food on myself! Geeeezzz!!!

Of course I don’t want to seem like an ingrate and use a up a wee bit of the lotion when she’s here. Hmmm…

On Food Blogs and Recklessness

There are food blogs and there are food blogs. Excellent, mediocre, plain terrible.

I’ve been reading a lot of the blogs on Asia lately. I can’t help but notice a good coverage of what would usually not be written about by the mainstream but also much cultural insensitivity and irresponsible speculation by some.

One very popular blogger shows her ambivalence and perhaps bitterness for her native land. She loves and blogs about her cuisine but never about her culture. Hmmm…

Another one feels like he knows much because he reads a lot of food books. Well, many of his hasty generalisations are outside the realm of his books.

And then of course there are those who just like eating, I am even tempted to call it pigging out. There is simply no appreciation for context. In the rare times that they write about it, it’s too tangential.

I could go on whinging but please don’t tell me to start my own food blog. I just might.

How about this? gmail_env.JPG

I’ve always wondered how my blog friends got theirs but never thought to ask. Now I chance upon this.

What a nice guy! He’ll even make them for you! I downloaded the graphic and made my own.

Another blog?

Apparently, yes.

Not too long ago, I started a blog on another site. It was meant for myself and a small group of friends. The internet being what it is, that site found some readers. Not that I didn’t appreciate that but somehow, I sometimes feel like hiding and writing for myself and I can’t do it there.

Now here’s Skylla. I’m forever playing with Karybdis.
